The Gentoo developer Tobias Scherbaum has finished his primer (in book form, and only in German) for the Linux distribution Gentoo. So now a short review on it.
The primary audience are beginners and so it describes the outlines of a Gentoo system. Beginner does not mean total beginner with Linux, basic knowledge about the philosophy of that operating system is needed. The edges that distinguish Gentoo from other distributions regarding installation and administration are described, a lot of it may be available online (e.g. the Gentoo Handbook), but this compilation of standard tools and excellent additions would have helped me a lot in the beginning. It may be nice to always discover new things (this happens up to today), knowing about it a bit earlier is more productive though.
The chapters go through introduction (where to get help for example), installation, Portage, USE flags, security (with some more partition). After all well written and compiled, but for my taste the author uses too much English words (hey, it is a German book) and Gentooisms, so an outsider may stumble upon it.
