After my last notebook disappeared just a short while ago, I have now the successor of the old model. A Dell Vostro 3500 is now mine and installing Gentoo on it (amd64 on it this time) has been dissappointingly easy, kernel configuration was straight-forward and X done so fast, I did not even notice. Even in comparison to last year (let alone the first time I ever installed Gentoo on a computer) a lot improved at every corner of the ecosystem. The only drawback is the use of the proprietary broadcom-sta driver for the WLAN module.
