Finally GNU Emacs upstream switched its version control system from CVS to Bazaar and development takes now place in a new repository with whole history. For Gentoo users of the live ebuild app-editors/emacs-cvs we did a package move to app-editors/emacs-vcs, which will update all your configuration files accordingly. We chose the version control system agnostic -vcs suffix because VCS is the term used in Emacs and we can avoid another package move on the next switch (whenever that will be). There were some discussions on bugzilla and forums why we keep a separate package for the live version, please don't bring it up separately, but read the entries there.
For normal users there is no change, only the /usr/portage/distfiles/cvs-src/ directory can have some clean-up as you won't need the Emacs related entries there anymore. Users of overlay live ebuilds are on the safe side, as long as they stick to the Emacs overlay. Thanks to Ulrich Müller (ulm), who took care of the whole transition. By the way, make sure, you use a Bazaar (dev-util/bzr) version from 1.18 onwards, because the repository format is only compatible with versions equal or above that, on most architectures version 2.0.1 is the current stable.
