On Saturday I finally migrated the last packages not touched by their maintainers to migrate them from the tcltk USE flag to the split tcl and tk ones. What is it good for? Simple. tcl can go with without X while tk means a toolkit for X.
Soif you have a server, without X of course, and you want some packages to be built with Tcl support you had to use package.use extensively to achieve that goal when trying to avoid Tk. Now you do USE="tcl -tk" you won't be bothered by X anymore.
